Maintains written policies and procedures informed by national standards
Commits to ongoing education and professional development
Aligns programming with evidence-based and ethical practices in equine-assisted services
This membership helps ensure that everything you see at Hilltop Horizons - from barn policies to volunteer roles - is rooted in consistency, safety, and effective equine-assisted services.
Optimal Terminology Matters
Using appropriate, up-to-date terminology is an important part of professionalism in the equine-assisted services industry. The language we use reflects respect for our participants, aligns with industry standards, and helps ensure clear and consistent communication among staff, volunteers, and families. Many commonly used terms are outdated or inaccurate and can unintentionally misrepresent the work we do.
Volunteers are often the most visible representatives of Hilltop Horizons, both on-site and in the broader community. The way we talk about our programs, participants, and services helps shape how Hilltop Horizons is understood by participants, families, visitors, and community members. Clear and consistent language also helps prevent misunderstandings about our programs and the nature of the work we do.
